	Abalone Shell Place of origin: America. Can improve the digestion of proteins, and strengthens the heart and other muscle tissue. Is said to promote inner beauty, inspiration and security. For Healers: Activates all the Chakras.
	Amber (fossilised tree resin) Place of origin: Countries around the Baltic Sea. Amber radiates sun and solar energy. It absorbs negative energy and changes it to positive. Promotes positive thinking and attitude. Historically it was thought that if a man carried a piece of amber on him, he would never be betrayed by sexual impotence! A good luck charm for travellers. For Healers: Activates the solar plexus and root chakra.
	Amethyst (Quartz) - AM Place of origin: Brazil, Uruguay, Siberia & N. America. Historically amethyst was associated with Bacchus (classical god of wine), it has long been reputed to help those who over-indulge in wine and was said to help prevent drunkenness. This stone is said to strengthen the immune system. It is an exceptional blood cleanser and energiser. Helps the wearer to lead a healthy, spiritual lifestyle. Can bring deep healing sleep and helps reduce pain especially headaches. For Healers: this stone is an essential for placement in a sacred space. It stimulates the third eye and stills the mind during meditation.
	Apatite (Apatite) - AP Place of origin: Russia, USA. Mexico & Namibia. The name apatite comes from a Greek word meaning 'to deceive' in reference to it's similarity to other more valuable minerals such as peridot and beryl. Apatite is a motivational stone and can encourage social interaction. Aids communication and self expression. Disperses aloofness and alienation. Is thought to be beneficial for hyper-active or autistic children.
	Aquamarine (Bervl) - AQ Place of origin: Brazil, Madagascar & Pakistan. Aquamarine is known as The Stone of Courage', it helps eliminate fears and phobias by building inner strength and courage. It aids in the learning about inner self and universal truths. Phvsically it is said to reduce fluid retention and calm coughs. For Healers: Boosts the third eve and throat chakra.
	Aventurine (variety of Quartz) Place of origin: Brazil, Madagascar & Russia. Can heal the heart by helping to release emotional stress. Commonly used as a good luck stone, bringing luck in love and games. Assists in the balancing of yin and yang energies.
	Blue Lace Agate (variety of Chalcedony Quartz) Place of origin: South Africa. This is a great nurturing stone it's energy is cooling and calming. Will help with headaches and depression, neutralises anger, infection, inflammation and fever. For Healers: Gentle activator of the throat and third eye chakra.
	Crazy Lace Agate (variety of Chalcedony Quartz) Place of origin: Mexico. This stone is said to be able to balance our physical energy.
	Dendric Agate (variety of Chalcedony Quartz) Place of origin: Brazil, India & USA. Encourages the wearer to be centred, brings stability, and to see difficult challenges. Physically, when placed on an area of pain this stone can provide pain relief. For Healers: Dendric Agate helps you to connect with your roots and aligns and opens the chakras.
	Green Moss Agate (translucent Chalcedony Quartz) Place of origin: India & USA. This agate can help dietary problems such as constipation, digestion and Anorexia. Is also said to be good for centering, self esteem and emotional balance.
	Black Onyx (Chalcedony) - BO Place of origin: Brazil, India & California. Helps to prevent stress and can improve concentration. For Healers: Affects the root Chakra, helps the wearer to change any bad habits and is useful for grounding.
	Blue Chalcedony (Quartz) - CH Place of origin: Brazil, India, Madagascar & Uruguay. This stone's name is thought to derive from the ancient port of Khalkedon in Asia Minor (now Turkey), where there were deposits found. This stone is said to stimulate maternal feelings. Can help with feelings of touchiness and melancholy.
	Carnelian (Chalcedony Quartz) - CA Place of origin: India. Occasionally called Cornelian. Freshly mined carnelian is often placed in the sun to change the brown tints to red. This stone is thought to still the blood and soften anger. Can help timid speakers to be eloquent and give the owner courage in battle!
	Cheetah Stone (serpentine) Place of origin: Zimbabwe. Also known as Leopard Stone.
	Cinnabar (Sulphide) Place of origin: Spain, China, Peru, ltaly, Uzbekistan & USA. Cinnabar is the major source of mercury (it is mercury sulphide). Its name is derived from a Persian and an Arabic word, which both translate to mean 'dragons blood'. When worn this stone is said to attract abundance, it helps with selling and prospering in ones endeavours. Can fill a person with dignity and power. For Healers: Releases energy blockages and aligns the energy centres.
	Citrine (Quartz) - CT Place of origin: Brazil, Madagascar, USA, Spain & Russia. Extremely positive stone, giving the wearer cheer, light-heartedness, hope, warmth and energy. Eliminates self-destructive tendencies by building the wearers self-esteem. For Healers: Cleanses vibrations in the atmosphere.
	Coral - CO Place of origin: Seas around Japan, Taiwan, the Red Sea, Biscayan Gulf, also can be found around the Canary Islands. Protects against nightmares, soothes fears and tensions, dispels depression. Encourages a positive way of living.
	Dalmation Jasper - DJ Place of origin: Mexico. Provides the wearer with stamina and determination. Removes disillusionment and helps you to see your strengths and weaknesses. Can alleviate depression and negative thinking, and is also thought to prevent nightmares.
	Flourite (Fluoride) - FL Place of origin: Canada, USA, S. Africa, Mexico, China, Mongolia, Thailand, Peru, Poland, Hungary, Norway, Czech Republic, England, Spain & Germany. Fluorite has the widest colour range of any mineral. 'The Stone for the Mind', this stone helps with learning and absorbing new ideas. Is also said to be beneficial to bones, teeth and cell development. For Healers: Cleanses and stabilises the aura and can remove negative energy and stress.
	Garnet (carnet) - GA Place of origin: Sri Lanka, Turkey, Brazil, India & Thailand. Garnet is the name for a group of differently coloured minerals with a similar chemical composition. Commonly red garnets are Almandine. Garnet can balance libido and aid sexual energy. Is also thought to benefit the spine, blood, heart and lungs and help in the absorption of minerals and vitamins. For Healers: When used together, will increase other crystals effects and removes negative energy from the Chakra system by giving it a great big boost!
	Hematite (Iron Oxide) - HE Place of origin: North America, Ukraine, China, India, Brazil, Australia, England, Germany, Venezuela & Italy. Helps the wearer of this stone to cope with stress. Because of the high levels of iron contained in this stone, it is beneficial for most blood disorders and rejuvenates oxygen levels in the bloodstream.
	Iolite - IL Place of origin: India, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Madagascar & South Africa. Used to be known as 'Water Sapphire' though this term is not generally used now. Iolite acts as a detoxifier for addictions (especially alcohol) and can help sobriety. For Healers: Iolite is an opener of the head region, from the throat to the two chakras above the crown.
	Imperial Jasper (Chalcedony) Place of origin: Guadalajara, Mexico. Jasper is a form of cryptocrystalline quartz. The markings are formed by the presence of other minerals within the chalcedony. Jasper is a female stone and is said to alleviate childbirth pain.
	Jade / Jadeite Place of origin: China, Japan, Myanmar, California USA, South America. Jade is a common term used for semiprecious jadeite and another similar stone called nephrite. This stone is very good for promoting good health, physical strength, fertility and longevity. This stone is often associated with Quan Yin - the goddess of compassion and mercy. For Healers: Activates the Heart chakra and will encourage love, wisdom and courage.
	Labradorite (Plagioclase Feldspar) - LB Place of origins India, Madagascar, Finland & Russia. Labradorite's name comes from the Canadian peninsula of Labrador where it was discovered in 1770. This stone enhances psychic vision and patience. For Healers: Will heal holes in an aura.
	Lapis (Feldspathoid) - LA Place of origin= Chile & Afghanistan. Can help to overcome depression, and enables one to speak up for themselves. Is believed to help build up the immune system. For Healers: lapis is known as 'The stone of self-knowledge and self-expression'. It stimulates the throat and third eye chakras.
	Larimar (Pecolite) Place of origin: Dominican Republic & Bahamas. Larimar was only discovered in the 1970's and is also known as 'Dolphin Stone'. Is thought to be good at curing the common cold. Encourages truth and helps critical individuals to adapt a more tolerant outlook. For Healers: Acts on the fifth chakra.
	Malachite (Copper Carbonate) Place of origin: Russia, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Australia, Morocco, Arizona (USA) & Lyon (France). Encourages success and good fortune, especially in business. Attracts money! Is a good stone for protection when travelling. For Healers: A good all purpose healer. Draws out impurities on all levels.
	Moldavite (Tektite) Place of origin: Czech Republic. Moldavite is a glass formed by a meteorite strike some 12 million years ago in the Czech Republic. Can help ease the symptoms of asthma, calms emotional intensity and can be beneficial to epilepsy suffers. For Healers: Acts on the third, sixth and the high-range upper chakras.
	Mother of Pearl - WP Place of origin: See Pearl (below). The Pearl industry began for the harvesting of mothers of pearl, not for pearls! This material has always been used for decoration, utensils, combs, jewellery and buttons.
	Rainbow Moonstone (Feldspar) - RM Place of origin- India, Norway & Russia. Rainbow Moonstone (Spectrolite) is said to be good at relieving back aches and other general back pain. Can calm emotions and improve emotional intelligence. For Healers: 'Stone of Intuition'. Protects healers from absorbing the problems of their patients.
	Obsidian - Snowflake Place of origin. Iceland, Italy & USA. This stone is a natural hard volcanic glass. Is thought to improve luck and protect from negativity. For Healers: Wear or carry to protect from and remove curse spells.
	Opal Place of origin: Australia, Slovakia, India & New Zealand. 'The Rainbow Stone' is the most magical and powerful of all the stones as it contains the powers of all colours. Opal is a stone that will bring very good luck, money and power. For Healers: Promotes psychic awareness and aids astral projection.
	Pearl - PE Place of origin: India, Sri 1.anka. Persian Gulf. Japan, China, Islands of South Pacific, Gulf of California & Gulf of Mexico. Pearls are produced by molluscs (though rarely by snails). The cultivation of freshwater blister pearls is thought to have started in the 13th Century (in China) and whole cultured pearls in the late 19th Century (in Japan). Pearls have long symbolised purity, innocence and faith. When worn they are thought to aid digestion, relieve stomach problems and ease emotional stress. For Healers: Works on the Heart Chakra.
	Peridot (Olivine) - PD Place of origin: China, Brazil, Australia, South Africa, Norway, USA, Egypt, Sri Lanka & Pakistan. The 'Stone of Friendship as it is associated with the process of making and keeping friends. Reduces anxiety, stress, tension, jealousy, anger and fear. In ancient times was considered to be a symbol of the sun and was worn by people to protect them from evil spirits. For Healers: Peridot is a gentle activator of the heart chakra.
	Rhodocrosite Place of origin: ESA, Romania, Mexico, Russia and South Africa. This stone is called 'The Brave Stone' or the 'Stone of Love and Harmony' by healers. It is associated with bringing the wearer the strength to overcome emotional trauma and mental breakdown. For Healers: Rhodocrosite is a powerful opener of the heart chakra and is said to be stronger than Rose Quartz.
	Rose Quartz - RQ Place of origin: Madagascar, Brazil, Russia, Sweden, Namibia, Spain, Scotland & USA. This stone is called 'The quartz of the heart' it can bring feelings of compassion and forgiveness by cooling hot tempers. Healers believe that this stone has the properties of unconditional love and emotional healing, if placed directly against the skin.
	Rutilated Quartz Place of origin: Brazil This stone is also known as 'Venus Hairstone'. For Healers: This is one of the strongest healing stones. Can help aid detoxification and balance and will help lead you in a positive direction by bringing you inner strength.
	Smokey Quartz - SQ Place of origin: Switzerland & USA. Smokey Quartz protects against negative feelings and environments. Some examples listed are, grief, anger, despair and depression. Environmentally - pollution, radiation and electromagnetic smog. For Healers: This is a grounding stone. It can transform negative, selfish and destructive behaviour patterns.
	Sugalite Place of origin= India, Canada, Japan, South Africa & Italy. A relatively new stone to the gemstone market, this stone was discovered in 1944. It's properties are listed as being able to strengthen the heart, aid physical healing and reduce stress. It is also suggested that it seems to protect and dissipate anger and other negative energies. For Healers: Strengthens the immune system and opens the crown chakra.
	Tigers Eye - TE Place of origin: South Africa, India & USA. Physically this stone is said to strengthen bones, aid digestion, cure ulcers and help healing problems with the eye. Can relieve and stabilise high blood pressure. For Healers: The 'Stone of Perception' it will help the wearer to accept change and new directions in life.
	Tourmaline - TM Place of origin: Brazil, Africa. Sri Lanka, USA. Africa, Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Tourmaline crystals that display only one colour are extremely rare. The range of colours that are available is unlimited. Obviously some being rarer than others. Each colour has it's own properties, but most seem to be attributed to the easing of respiratory problems and feelings of the heart. For Healers: Opens and heals the heart chakra.
	Turquoise - TQ Place of origin: USA, Iran, Afghanistan, Australia, China (Tibet), Israel and Tanzania. The name Turquoise means 'Turkish Stone, because the trade route that bought it to Europe came via Turkey. Is thought to be one of the first stones to be mined as heads dating back to 5000bc have been found. Has been used by many different cultures as a protection stone. Protecting against danger, accidents and evil. Is said to be a good stone to wear whilst travelling. For Healers: Turquoise is the 'Master Healing' stone. Aids meditation and peace of mind.
